THE La Salle Animo Squad is keen to sustain the gains under coach Ruffa Rosario as the team aims for another podium finish in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Rosario steered La Salle to second place in 2011 and a third-place finish last year, bumping perennial contender Far Eastern University off the podium in the process.

Just like last year when they did a military-routine performance inspired by the top grossing movie Praybeyt Benjamin topbilled by comedian Vice Ganda - a personal idol of Rosario – the La Salle cheerdancers are again looking to come up with another surprise performance.

Team captain Charley Pena said the Taft-based cheerdancers count on their coach, the element of surprise, and heart as their strong points.

“In my opinion, our advantage over other teams is, first, we have Coach Ruffa. Second we always have something new to show and surprise the crowd. Lastly, we have the heart and determination to win despite all obstacles and trials we face,” she said.

Peña though expects competition to be a lot tougher this year, well aware all teams have prepared a lot just as they did.

But the third year marketing student is confident the Animo cheerdancers can achieve their goal with four-year coach Ruffa around, describing their mentor as "talented, creative, and experienced."

“Coach Ruffa, I can say, is one of the best coaches in the country. And yes, he is very talented and creative especially in creating routines,” said Peña.

“He is also a good mentor and coach because he knows a lot of things and has experienced a lot already. Our coach has his own technique and strategy which makes him unique from other coaches. That is why we are lucky to have him as our coach.”
