GHICKA Bernabe knows how proud her former mentor Jaqui Alolor is with what she had achieved as cheerdance coach of National University.
The 26-year-old dance master recently steered the NU Pep Squad to back-to-back UAAP Cheerdance Competition championships, besting for the second straight year her alma mater Far Eastern University, which is still being handled by Alolor.
Prior to the meet, the veteran mentor said she’s looking to beat Bernabe and NU to prove that the teacher is still better than the student – all in the name of competition.
Bernabe, though, proved her wrong for the second straight time.
But the charming NU coach is aware that even from far away, Alolor is truly proud of her success.
“Alam ko na proud sa akin ang coach ko,” Bernabe told Spin.ph. “Dancer niya ako dati and kung ano man ang nagawa ko sa NU, galing din 'yun sa kanya sa FEU.”
A perennial podium finisher, FEU failed to make it to the top three for the second straightseason, although it bagged first place in the Group Stunts competition.
Bernabe believes her former team will soon be back to its winning ways.
“I'm happy for FEU kasi nanalo sila sa group stunts,” she said. “Babalik din ang FEU sa top three, I believe in the craft of FEU, syempre doon din naman ako galing.”
Meanwhile, NU announced that part of its prize money for retaining its cheerdance title worth P340,000, will be donated to survivors of typhoon Yolanda.
