FROM star athlete to host in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition, Alyssa Valdez never fails to bring her A-game. But she would rather let others be the judge of her performance.
"'Di ko alam kung ano 'yung performance ko today," she said shyly.
Although the former Ateneo volleyball star was reluctant to rate herself, she earned praise from fellow host Nikko Ramos after her maiden stint on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
"Alyssa was great, Alyssa will always be humble and tell you na she doesn’t think she did great," said the experienced radio jock and former University of the East courtside reporter, who teamed up with Valdez and ABS-CBN host Gretchen Fulido.
"We learned from sequence one na Alyssa wasn’t someone that we were gonna have to carry even though it was her first try. I was a fan of her earlier hosting wise," he added.
Valdez, a many-time UAAP MVP in a championship-studded career with the Lady Eagles, said she was more impressed with the cheerdancers and the work they put in year round.
They certainly earned her respect.
"Imagine they have one day lang (to compete), but they train the whole year. Tayo may bawi tayo, second round. This is the only time to perform definitely one for the books," she said.
Valdez is not sure whether she will try hosting again - or whether hosting can be an alternate career in the future - but she definitely had a good time.
Consider Ramos her No. 1 supporter.
"Next year me and Gretchen are out of the job and Alyssa is doing this all by herself," he said.
