WHAT he didn’t accomplish as a player, he did as a coach.
Adamson University Pep Squad coach Jam Lorenzo steered the San Marcelino-based cheerdancers to their first-ever title in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition, something he dreamt of winning in his journey with the team first as a cheerleader before going into coaching for the last 10 years.
“Pinaka naging motivation ko since I entered Adamson since 2007 until 2012 (as cheerleader) we were winless, na-experience ko ‘yung pagiging talo buong college life ko,” said Lorenzo.
“Given the opportunity na mag-apply for school (as coach) ‘yun ‘yung naging motivation ko at inspiration ko ‘yung frustration ko para ibawi ‘yung mga panahon na nakaramdam ako ng talo,” he added.
AdU Pep Squad became the fifth team to win a title in the UAAP CDC, joining University of Santo Tomas and University of the Philippines who each own eight titles, followed by National University with four and Far Eastern University with two.
But the feat made Lorenzo proud of his team and humbled at the same time to be in the ranks of UAAP CDC powerhouse squads.
“Kung mai-hilera kami sa (NU, UP and UST) it’s very flattering and overwhelming pero we still have more room for improvement pa,” he said.
“Sinasabi ko nga bilog ang bola eh, nasa position kami, we got the title and mag-strive pa kami para masustain namin kung anong level ‘yung meron kami ngayon,” he added.
