INCHEON, South Korea — Wilfredo Lopez and Ian Clark Bautista outpointed their rivals on Thursday to reach the round of 16 of the boxing competitions in the 17th Asian Games at the Seonhak Gymnasium.

Lopez emerged a 2-1 winner over Aziz Achilov of Turkmenistan in the middleweight class, while Bautista proved too much for Mohamad Shamon of Jordan, pounding out a 3-0 win in the flyweight division.

The two joined countrymen Mario Fernandez and Charly Suarez, who also posted big wins in the opening rounds of the lightweight and bantamweight divisions, respectively, on Wednesday.

Lopez, 19, wisely used his height advantage and longer reach to keep Achilov at bay while delivering straights and the South Korean and Irish judges both scored it 29-28 for the Filipino. The Tunisian judge scoring it 29-28 for the fighter from Turkmenistan.

Bautista, 20, had no problems with the three judges who saw him the clear winner by scores of 29-26, 29-25, 29-27.
