INCHEON, Korea — Middleweight Wilfredo Lopez ended a disappointing Thursday evening for the Philippine boxing team with a split decision loss to Odai Riyad Adel Alhindawi of Jordan and settled for the bronze in the Asian Games boxing competitions at the Seonhak Gymnasium.

The Algerian and Korean judge had Alhindawi winning the bout, 29-28, while a Cuban judge had it 29-28 in favor of Lopez.

Lopez’s loss came after Mark Anthony Barriga and Mario Fernandez lost in their semifinal bouts, leaving the Philippine boxers with three bronze medals and only lightweight Charly Suarez with a shot at a gold medal.

“Parang sa akin, may panalo rin ako sa laro. Hindi lang siguro binigay ng Diyos,” said Lopez, who sustained a cut in his left eyebrow due to a headbutt in the third round.
