CHARLY Suarez won't be gunning for just one, but two world titles should his rematch with Emanuel Navarette finally push through.
WBO president Gustavo Olievieri ordered a rematch between the two fighters a year after their first fight was declared a no-contest.
Navarrete is currently the WBO and IBF featherweight champion after recently scoring an 11th round stoppage against Eduardo Nunez in their title unification bout.
The WBO has given both camps 20 days to reach a settlement for a rematch, otherwise a purse bid will be held at a minimum amount of $150,000 or roughly P9 million.
“Please be advised that the WBO World Championship Committee has unanimously voted to order negotiations between unified WBO/IBF junior lightweight champion Emanuel Navarrete and the #1 world-rated contender and mandatory challenger Charly Suarez to discharge pending mandatory obligation,” the WBO posted on its X account.
The boxing body already ordered a rematch between Suarez and Navarrete the moment the California State Athletic Commission overturned the champion's technical decision win into a no-contest.
But no return bout took place and Navarrete went on and accepted a unification bout with Nunez last February in Glendale, Arizona.
Suarez, 37, hasn't fought since that controversial result against Navarrete and maintained his perfect 18-0 record including 10 KOs.
Navarrete holds a 40-2-1 record with 33 KOs, although it remains to be seen if he'll accept the rematch with Suarez or relinquished his belt and move up in weight.
