JAYSON Vayson is undeterred fighting an undefeated reigning champion in his first ever attempt at a boxing world title.
The 27-year-old Filipino will try to unseat unified minimumweight champion Oscar Collazo of Puerto Rico on Sept. 20 at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.
At stake in the 12-round bout are Collazo’s WBA and WBO title belts.
Collazo, 28, holds a 12-0 record with 9 KOs, who has successfully defended his belts five times, the last of which was a fifth round knockout of Mexican Edwin Cano Hernandez in Cancun last March.
The Puerto Rican was also responsible for stripping Filipino Melvin Jerusalem of his WBO minimumweight crown after the champion retired from his stool after the seventh round of their title fight.
Collazo was just ahead by a point on all three judges’ scorecards when the bout was stopped.
Vayson wants next
Vayson, the pride of Agusan Del Sur, holds a 14-1-1 record with eight KOs and will be fighting in the US for the first time.
But he’s fought his last seven bouts overseas in Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, and Dubai, winning five of them, lost one, and another a no-contest.
He is coming off a second round knockout of Thai Jirawat Aiamong just a month ago.
Vayson has been in the US for a month now and trained at the Knuckleheads gym in Las Vegas.
