ALA Promotions top executives will discuss security matters with officials of the Mall of Asia Arena (MOA) for Saturday’s world title fight between AJ `Bazooka’ Banal and Pungluang Sor Singyu of Thailand.
Chad Canares, media and public relations officer of the Cebu-based boxing promotions, was set to bring up the issue in a late Thursday meeting with venue managers of the newly-built stadium considered as the biggest in the country today.
Security concerns at MOA were raised in light of the burglary that took place at the venue during the PBA Philippine Cup game between Meralco and Globalport Wednesday night.
Victimized were the coaching staff of the Bolts, particularly head mentor Ryan Gregorio, who lost valuables including an iPad, mobile phones, cash, credit cards, and important documents as thieves ransacked the Meralco dugout during the game.
“We’ll definitely ask MOA management about the security. It’s something that we shouldn’t ignore,” said Canares shortly after the final press conference for the title match where the World Boxing Organization bantamweight belt will be at stake.
“Especially, the promotions involved not only Filipinos but foreign fighters as well. And this is a world title fight so dapat mas tight talaga ang security,” he added.
The Banal-Sor Singyu showdown is the first world title bout to be staged at the site first inaugurated in May of this year.
