FILIPINO Romero Duno piled up another victory for the year after outpointing Juan Pablo Sanchez on Sunday (Manila time) at the Forum in Los Angeles, California.
The 21-year-old native of General Santos City beat his veteran Mexican foe via unanimous decision, winning their eight-round lightweight bout by scores of 78-74, 78-74, 78-74.
It was the third straight win for Duno this year after earlier stunning previously unbeaten Christian Gonzales with a second round knockout win and a second round TKO victory over compatriot Jason Tinampay.
Duno hiked his record to 15-1-0 with 13 KOs, the only blotch in his career coming off a loss against Russian Mikhail Alexeev in an eight-round unanimous decision last year.
The rising Filipino boxer felt good about his performance, which he was able to showcase in the undercard of the Jorge Linares-Luke Campbell battle for the World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight title.
“I’m satisfied with my performance. Sanchez was a tough competitor and I respect him,” said Duno. “I’ve learned a lot from this fight and I am going to take the lessons I’ve learned onto the next.”
Sanchez’s record now stands at 30-14, with 14 KOs.
