THE fight is so big it deserves nothing but a red carpet treatment for both Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr
The two boxing superstars formally get together early Thursday morning for the only press event heralding their May 2 world welterweight unification title showdown at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Befitting their status as two of the biggest names in boxing today, Pacquiao and Mayweather Jr. will be given a red carpet welcome as they make their way to the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.
Hordes of press people from television networks, print, and online media are expected to cover the special event which serves as a prelude to the biggest ring match ever in recent years.
The press conference marks the only time Pacquiao and Mayweather Jr. will appear together in public and discuss before a horde of mediamen the richest fight in boxing history.
The two world champions won’t see each other again until the weigh-in.
Pacquiao himself can't hide his excitement over the prospect of getting rock star treament for his showdown with the unbeaten Mayweather.
"Special na press conference ito dahil red carpet ang dadaanan namin," said the 36-year-old champion.
Aside from the usual hype to be drummed up by their respective promoters, the event will also show past fights of both Mayweather and Pacquiao as well as footages of their respective workouts courtesy of Top Rand and Showtime.
Expected to get attention during the course of the event are the trainers of the two boxing icons, namely Freddie Roach and Floyd Mayweather Sr., both vocal about one not liking each other.
The press conference is not open to the public.
