MACAU – Filipino fighters in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Brandon Rios welterweight fight shone on Sunday as Dan Nazareno Jr. and Harmonito Dela Torre scored contrasting knockout wins against separate opponents.
Dela Torre of General Santos City kicked off the Filipinos' campaign on a high note after stopping Jason Butar Butar of Indonesia in the first fight of the 10-bout card at the Cotai Arena here.
The unbeaten Dela Torre knocked out Butar Butar in the third round of their super-featherweight match.
The end came at the 1:23:04 mark of the third as the upcoming Dela Torre improved his record to 11-0, with six KOs.
Nazareno followed suit with a second round technical knockout victory over Pacquiao sparmate Liam Vaughan.
The Filipino super-welterweight stopped Vaughan at 51 seconds of the second round to raise his record to 18-10, with 13 KOs.
Vaughan fell to 8-2 (2 KOs) despite having Freddie Roach on his corner.
