INCHEON, South Korea - Philippine chef de mission Ritchie Garcia remains optimistic about the country’s campaign in the 17th Asian Games here even as a gold medal remains very elusive for the 150-man Filipino athletes.

Garcia, also the chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), pointed out that several Philippine teams haven't even seen action yet in this quadrennial conclave.

A week since action kicked off, the Philippines has only produced two silver and a bronze medal, all courtesy of wushu through Daniel Parantac, Jean Claude Saclag, and Francisco Solis.

Garcia cited boxing, a consistent medal producer for the country, as it still has five fighters still in contention for medals.

“Five of six isn’t a bad ratio,” he said.

And then there’s more.

Garcia said BMX rider Daniel Calauag will still see action on October 1 while taekwondo and rugby are still set to be played, with the last batch of Filipino athletes checking in at the Athletes’ Village on Friday.
