    LAS VEGAS — Dodie Boy Peñalosa made a grand US debut with a second round knockout of Jesus Raya in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez fight on at the MGM Grand Saturday (Sunday, Manila time).

    The end came at 1:12 of the second round when Peñalosa connected with a 1-2 combo in the body.

    The son of former two-time world champion Dodie Boy Peñalosa raised his record to 10-0, all by knockout. The featherweight fight was scheduled for eight rounds.

    “First-time niyang lumaban sa US kaya magandang simula ito,” said the elder Peñalosa.

    Mercito Gesta, meanwhile, lost in his bid for the IBF lightweight title against Miguel Vasquez via unanimous decision. Scores were terribly lopsided 117-111, 119-109, 118-110 in Vasquez's favor.

    Ernie Sanchez of General Santos City sparked the Filipino fighters’ assault in the preliminaries as he scored a unanimous decision over Coy Evans in the first fight of the night at super-feather.

    Sanchez won by scores of 78-73, 78-73 and 77-74. He improved to 14-3 with 5 KOs.
