PEDRO Taduran stakes his IBF minimumweight crown against Gustavo Perez of Mexico on April 3 in Temecula, California.
Taduran is now in Las Vegas training for his third defense of the 105-pound crown.
Elorde siblings Marty and Cucuy, who handles the 29-year-old Filipino, confirmed the coming title bout at the Pechanga Resort Casino as they attended the San Miguel Corporation-Philippine Sportswriters Association Awards Night at the Diamond Hotel Manila on Monday along with the wife of the boxing champion.
Taduran is coming off a unanimous decision win over fellow Filipino Christian Balunan last October.
He first won the IBF championship with a ninth round stoppage of Ginjiro Shigeoka and then retained the crown with a unanimous decision against the same Japanese opponent.
The Libon, Albay native holds a record of 19-4-1 (13 KOs).
Perez is no pushover though.
The Mexican, 27, has a ring record of 16-1 with 5 KOs, although he’s fighting for a world championship for the very first time.
