Manny Pacquiao will make his grand entrance at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday (Sunday, Manila time) in a hooded robe embellished with the Philippines’ tri colors, with a sun above his name.
The champ will bounce around the ring wearing shoes built to his exact specifications, and in trunks weighing just over six ounces - 18 percent lighter than his usual trunks, regardless of the names of his numerous sponsors emblazoned on it.
Apparel giant Nike, which counts the Filipino ring hero among its biggest endorsers, has made sure the world welterweight champion will not only feel good but also look good when he fights American Tim Bradley.
According to Nike, what makes the gear different is that the robe and trunks are made of sustainable material with fabric made of 100% recycled polyester, using an average of 50 recycled plastic bottles.
Pacquiao’s robe also features Nike Sphere Technology on the inside for lightweight warmth and breathability.
Recycled polyester textiles, which can be made from used beverage bottles, have lower energy use, less raw materials extraction and less waste compared to traditional, virgin polyester fiber, Nike said.
The Nike HyperKO MP boot was built to keep Pacquiao supported for boxing-specific footwear movement, while withstanding extreme torque and pressure.
