AS he set sail for Kuala Lumpur to vie for the WBA welterweight belt of hard-punching Lucas Matthysse, we got in touch with Manny Pacquiao through his personal mobile number and the former pound-for-pound king was kind enough to give us a few moments of his time.
Now in the twilight of what is clearly destined to be a Hall-of-Fame career, Pacquiao (57-7-2, 38 KOs), now 39, seeks another shot at glory after becoming boxing's only eight-division title-holder.
Q. Ano ang pakiramdam mo ngayon na tuloy na talaga ang laban matapos ang umiiral na mga rumors sa funding?
Pacquiao: Ready na naman tayo. Ginawa natin ang lahat na magagawa natin sa training. Excited na.
Q. Ano ang nakakaiba ngayon sa Team Pacquiao na wala na si Freddie Roach, may mga panibago ba?
Pacquiao: Nothing has changed. We still have Buboy (Fernandez) and Justine (Fortune) in the team. Alam naman ni Buboy yung ginagawa namin nuon.
Q. Ano ba ang kaibahan sa atmospehere ngayon at sa dati na andoon pa si coach Freddie?
Pacquiao: Same pa rin.
Q. May bago kang cutman, si Dr. Ed De la Vega. Anong masabi mo tungkol sa change na ito
Pacquiao: Magaling naman si Doc as cutman. Experienced na rin dahil sa mga napuntahang laban sa America.
Q. Lalaban ka pa ba sa America, Senator?
Pacquiao: Aaway pa rin. Depende, kung taga doon ang kalaban, doon tayo.
Q. Si Vasyl Lomachenko ba ang susunod na kalaban?
Pacquiao: Wala pa. Tapusin muna natin tong Matthysse fight saka pagusapan yung Lomachenko. Available naman pa palagi si Lomachenko.
