LOS ANGELES – Zab Judah's performance against Floyd Mayweather served as the ideal prototype for Manny Pacquiao in his bid to deal ‘The Money Man’ his first ever career loss this weekend.
Pacquiao admitted dissecting the 2006 bout between the two American welterweights which Mayweather won via unanimous decision after surviving an obvious knockdown in the second round which referee Richard Steele ruled as a slip.
Both Pacquiao and Judah are southpaws.
“I saw a lot of good movements there which I applied in training,” said Pacquiao shortly after holding his final day of sparring for the 12-round title match billed as the richest fight ever in the history of boxing.
Pacquiao believes he can do better than Judah against Mayweather come Saturday (Sunday, Manila time) at the MGM Grand.
“I believe so,” he replied when asked if he will do better than Judah.
Pacquiao also stressed Judah should have been credited with knocking down the 38-year-old Mayweather since it was clear on replays that Floyd’s glove touched the canvas.
"Under the rules, once your gloves touch the canvas, that’s already considered a knockdown,” said the fighting pride of the Philippines.
But he doesn’t see that happening to him on Saturday when he finally comes face-to-face with Mayweather in the ring at the MGM Grand after five years of waiting.
His reply is curt and simple: “He’ll (Mayweather) face the best Manny Pacquiao.”
