JUAN Manuel Marquez believes Manny Pacquiao has to knock Floyd Mayweather Jr. out in order to win against the American boxer.
In a story ran by boxingscene.com, Marquez said in a recent interview with Golpe a Golpe that Pacquiao must knock out Mayweather, claiming that Las Vegas judges tend to favor the undefeated fighter.
Pacquiao faces Mayweather on May 2 (May 3, Manila time) in a much-awaited fight that this early is being tagged as the greatest fight in this generation.
“For Manny to win, he must knock him out,” Marquez said. “Because the judges in Las Vegas are always in favor of Mayweather.”
Marquez knocked out Pacquiao in their fourth contest on November 2011 with a vicious left hook in the sixth round.
The Mexican star lost to Mayweather via unanimous decision on June 2009.
Marquez noted that Mayweather is a fine counterpuncher and that Pacquiao must adapt to this style.
“Normally when Pacquiao is aggressive, he throws without (looking out for the counter), and in this respect, he must change because Mayweather is a great counterpuncher, and knows precisely what hurts Pacquiao. Mayweather has the style that hurts Pacquiao and he should win by decision,” Marquez said.
Marquez, however, said Pacquiao’s speed shouldn’t be taken lightly
“What hurts Pacquiao will be the counters and the defense of Mayweather, but he is dangerous for his speed and power,” said Marquez.
