HOLLYWOOD – Manny Pacquiao’s immediate family is fully behind him as he decides whether to retire or not after his third bout with Timothy Bradley.
From father Rosalio to younger brother Bobby, the Pacquiaos are one in backing whatever course of action the boxing superstar will take after his April 9 (April 10, Manila time) match with Bradley.
With the exception of Mommy Dionisia, the matriarch of the Pacquiao clan, just about everybody in Manny’s family are now all accounted for in Los Angeles.
“Kung ano desisiyon niya after the fight susuportahan natin 'yan,” said Mang Rosalio in Visayan dialect as translated by son Roel in Filipino. “Siya lang naman makapagsasabi niyan. Mahirap naman pangunahan.”
the eight-division world champion had earlier declared his third match against Bradley will be his last as he is seeking a senate seat in the May 9 national election.
But there are those who doubt if the 37-year-old boxing great can easily step away from the sport that has been very good to him, including Top Rank promoter Bob Arum.
Bobby said even he himself doesn’t exactly know what’s the real score as far as his elder brother’s boxing career is concerned.
“Siya naman ang nakakaalam niyan, hindi naman tayo ang magde-decide,” said Bobby, a former pro boxer himself.
Roel, who is seeking to take over the position to be vacated by Pacquiao as congressman of Sarangani, said there’s one fight that could very well change his brother's retirement plan – a rematch with retired champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.
“Opportunity kasi niyang makabawi yun,” he stressed.
