JESSIE Magdaleno received the perfect birthday gift when he won the World Boxing Organization (WBO) super-bantamweight title three days before he turned 25.
As he celebrated on Wednesday (Manila time), Nonito Donaire Jr. made known his birthday wish for him.
Still puzzled with how he lost a 12-round unanimous decision against Magdaleno over the weekend at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, the 'Filipino Flash' called out on the newly-crowned champ for a rematch which he thought he rightfully deserves.
The 33-year-old Donaire said the Las Vegas native should give him a shot at regaining the 122-lbs. championship in as much as he gave Magdaleno a chance to fight him.
“RESPECT to you, but let’s sign an immediate rematch!” Donaire called out on his Twitter account @Filipinoflash.
“Like you said in the medical, I gave you a chance to win the belt, now I want it back,” he added. “We gave a great fight.”
Donaire lostto Magdaleno by scores of 116-112, 116-112, and 118-110 in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Jessie Magdaleno WBO welterweight championship bout.
The judges’ decision left Donaire stunned after the outcome was announced. He later admitted in the post-fight interview that 'losing never crossed my mind.'
But with everything all settled and done with, all the former four-time world division champion could ask for was a return bout against his American-Mexican conqueror.
“Nothing but respect for what u brought to the fight, but let’s meet at Top Rank and tell Bob (Arum) to get it done,” he added in his message to Magdaleno.
He even suggested a possible trilogy between the two of them in the wake of what he perceived was a controversial outcome of their first title fight.
“It’s time for us to do a Pacquiao/Marquez or Barrera/Morales trilogy for 122!,” he stressed. This is what boxing is about! Game on?”
Magdaleno has yet to respond.
