Pacquiao training regimen, mental toughness featured in Nike documentary. Watch VIDEO

    Apr 27, 2015

"YOU have to set your mind. You have to prepare your mind."

With less than a week before his May 2 (May 3, Manila time) megafight with Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao is featured in a documentary video relased by Nike showing details of the Filipino boxing champion's training that focuses not only on the physical but also the mental aspect.

The Filipino boxing champion appears in the most recent episode of Nike's 'Inner Strength,' a documentary series that "captures the inspiration, and motivations that drive Nike athletes in their training."

A highlight of the series' third episode shows Pacquiao shadowboxing in the ring - the camera focused on footwork, an impressive display of the eight-division world champion's speed, agility and deft movement.

While some athletes might find a crowd of onlookers a distraction during training sessions, Pacquiao enjoys their presence and has learned to focus on what truly matters.

"I love to have a lot of people around me while I'm training. I love it when people train with me," Pacquiao said.

On its official website, Nike Training said "Pacquiao’s relentless training regimen may not be solitary, but he has trained his mind to shut out the distractions surrounding him while running, side-stepping stadium steps, doing core workouts and heavy ball throws."

“When I was 16 years old, I worked hard. I trained, trained, trained, trained [the] whole day. When you’re getting older, you have to balance … balance your body. You have to give time for your body to rest.”

The black-and-white video that runs for two minutes 57 seconds shows Pacquiao's training routine -  from ab work, running stairs at the UCLA track and shadowboxing.

"Preparing physically, spiritually and mentally - it will assure victory," said Pacquiao.

The video reveals that despite being 36-years old, Pacquiao is putting the necessary preparation he will need when he faces the undefeated Mayweather in Las Vegas.

"You have to survive. You need to go through the hard work before you get the crown."
