NESTHY Petecio begins her quest for an Olympic berth in the Aiba Women’s World Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Petecio vies for one of four spots for the Rio Games in the flyweight division of the world championships that will run from May 19 to 27.

Petecio, seeded sixth in the competition, drew a first round bye and will face the winner of the bout between Zohra Ez Zahraoui of Morocco and Eunjin Nam of Korea on Saturday.

Light flyweight Josie Gabuco and bantamweight Irish Magno will also see action in the world championships but won’t be vying for slots in Rio since only the flyweight, lightweight, and middleweight divisions are being played in the Olympics.

Gabuco takes on Sevda Asenova of Bulgaria in the first round slated Saturday, while Magno battles Mongolian fighter Bolortuul Tumurkhuyag on Friday.
