Ancajas offers words of consolation in chance meeting with Gonzalez at airport
Jerwin Ancajas and Israel Gonzalez meet by accident at the airport in Houston.

JERWIN Ancajas had a friendly message to Israel Gonzalez when their paths crossed again a day after the Filipino knocked out his Mexican foe to retain his International Boxing Federation (IBF) super-flyweight crown.

"Sabi ni Jerwin, bata pa siya at malaki pa ang tsansa na maging world champion," said trainer-manager Joven Jimenez as he recounted the chance encounter between the two fighters at the Houston airport on Monday.

Ancajas and his entourage were on their way back to Los Angeles, while Gonzalez and his team were wating for their flight to Mexico.

"Yun lang. Tapos nag-wish lang si Jerwin ng good luck sa career niya," added Jimenez.

The 26-year-old Ancajas methodically destroyed Gonzalez in their 12-round title bout on Sunday at the American Bank Cente in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The native of Panabo, Davao del Norte decked his Mexican challenger three times on the way to a 10th-round stoppage for the fourth successful defense of his title belt right in his first US fight.

Jimenez said Top Rank has yet to send word on what's possibly next for Ancajas, although a mandatory fight is supposed to take place this summer against countryman Jonas Sultan.

The ALA boxing pride earned a shot at Ancajas's title after scoring a 12-round decision against former two-time world champion Johnriel Casimero in their title eliminator bout last September.

Ancajas and his team are expected to arrive in Manila on Wednesday morning from Los Angeles.
