JEFFREY Arienza defeated Wellem Reyk via technical knockout in the fifth round to capture the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council (ABCO) welterweight title last week in Elorde’s Night of Champions III at the Mall of Asia Music Hall.

The 25-year-old Arienza, a former world youth champion and a prized fighter from the Elorde Stable, improved his record to 15-4-1 with the win over Reyk.

Arienza used several body shots to set up the knockout victory, his ninth in his professional boxing career.

In other bouts, Silvester Lopez (27-11-2) beat Danilo Pena via technical knockout in the seventh round to claim the WBC ABCO featherweight title.

Pena began the fight as the aggressor but Lopez bounced back by landing solid uppercuts before the knockout finish.

JR Jacobcob (6-2-5) knocked out Donny Mabao in the fourth round for the Philippine featherweight crown.

In the undercard matches, Rolley Sumalpong defeated Ruben Traza via unanimous decision, Allan Vallespin won over Jonel Brobon (2nd round TKO), Argie Guiriba overcame Jun Jun Rimasog (1st round KO), Jerome Roque and Elbin Magalad fought to a draw, and Nestor Junio won over Rommel Hangalay via majority decision.
