EUMIR Felix Marcial failed to make it to the Rio De Janeiro Olympics after succumbing to Tuvshinbat Byamba of Mongolia via unanimous decision on Friday night in Qian’an, China.
All judges scored the bout, 29-28, for Byamba, who overcame the height and range advantage of Marcial in the fight.
Marcial, a former juniors champion, won the third and final round on all of the three judges’ scorecards but it didn’t matter as Byamba swept the first two rounds and secured the third and final spot for Asia/Oceania in the Olympic welterweight division.
Unlike Thursday’s campaign, it was an uneventful Friday for the Filipino boxers who could not join fellow pugs Rogen Ladon and Charly Suarez to Rio De Janeiro as Mario Fernandez also lost to Kairat Yeraliyev of Kazakhstan via unanimous decision, earlier in the day.
Ladon, who already landed a berth in the Olympics on Thursday following his semifinal victory, also failed to win the gold medal of the light flyweight division after bowing to Hasanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan.
Suarez will look for redemption as he vies for the gold in the lightweight division against Otgondalai Dorjnyambuu of Mongolia on Saturday evening.
