Petecio dispatches semis foe to move on cusp of Aiba Women’s World Champs gold

Petecio aims to become first fighter since Josie Gabuco in 2012 to win the women’s world title in boxing

NESTHY Petecio will vie for the gold medal in the Aiba Women’s World Championships 2019 after beating Karriss Artingstall of England on Saturday in Ulan-Ude, Russia.

Petecio won via unanimous decision in her featherweight semifinal match with four judges scoring the bout, 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, and 29-28. One judge scored the fight, 30-27.

The Filipina fighter will go for gold on Sunday against Liudmila Vorontsova of Russia, who beat Lin Yu Ting of Chinese Taipei, 3-2.

Petecio won over second-seed Stanimina Petrova of Bulgaria in her first bout, and beat Jieru Qiao of China in her next fight. In the quarterfinals, Petecio beat Irie Sena of Japan.
