NESTHY Petecio advanced to the featherweight finals of the Asian Boxing Confederation - Asian Women’s Championship after a unanimous decision over India’s Basumatary Pwilao in Wulanchabu, China.
The 23-year-old Petecio will face Peamwilai Laopeam of Thailand in the finals set Thursday night.
“Malakas siya at nakita ko na lugi ako sa dikitan kaya nilaro ko sa labas,” said Petecio, the lone Filipina standing in the PLDT-Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines team after Josie Gabuco, Irish Magno, and Riza Pasuit were eliminated early.
Petecio and Laopeam have a 1-1 head-to-head record with the Thai beating the Filipina in the Palembang Southeast Asian Games in 2011 and Petecio winning over Laopeam in the China Open last year.
The Filipino coaches are Roel Velasco and Mitchel Martinez while two of the members of the officiating crew are Aiba international technical official Karina Picson of the Draw Commission, and Aiba three-star international referee-judge Cildo Evasco.
