BANTAMWEIGHT Nesthy Petecio advanced to the semifinals of the Asian Boxing Confederation Asian Women’s Championship at the Wulanchabu Sports Gymnasium in China.

Petecio, a silver medalist in the 2014 Women’s World Championship in Jeju, beat Kawano Sana in her quarterfinal match on Monday, dodging a flurry of punches by the 19-year-old Japanese and countering her power right straights.

“She's a crafty fighter. She has an unorthodox defensive style that I had to figure out so my shots would connect. We have to watch out for her in the coming years,” said the 23-year-old Petecio, who lost a close fight for the gold in the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore.

Petecio will face India’s Basumatary Pwilao in the semifinals on Wednesday. Pwilao beat Liu Piaopiao of China via split decision in the quarterfinals.

Petecio is the lone survivor among the four members of the PLDT-Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines boxing team after Josie Gabuco, Irish Magno, and Riza Pasuit have been eliminated.
