CHRIS Aguilar is that familiar figure who usually plays the role of bad guy to Philippine movies' late kings Fernando Poe, Jr. and Dolphy.
Now he's a good guy in Pacman's camp.
With his towering height, hulking physique, and mean looks, Aguilar is perfect in his role as lead security to boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao during training and social functions.
But there’s another side of him that many of people doesn’t know.
In his own words, Aguilar said he’s a `Jesus Christ believer and a Jesus Christ follower,' having been preaching the word of God for a long time now.
And that’s something that made the bond between him and Pacquiao even stronger.
“I am his assistant pastor,” Aguilar revealed to Spin.ph. “Lahat ng spiritual, mga mission and trabaho about God, about helping people, yun ang tulong ko sa kanya.”
Despite the spiritual link, Aguilar said he still performs his task of securing the boxing champion's safety.
“Doon naman tayo nakilala e, kaya tumutulong pa rin tayo sa pag-iingat sa kanya,” he stressed.
The friendship between the two began in 2005 back when the boxing star and Sarangani province congressman lost a 12-round unanimous decision against Erik Morales.
By that time, Aguilar said he was already into preaching the word of God.
“Sama-sama lang ako sa kanya (Pacquiao). Volunteer lang ako, hindi talaga ako nagta-trabaho sa kanya,” Aguilar recalled. “Pero ipinakita ko sa kanya na ito (preacher) na ako.”
Pacquiao would eventually take the same path six years later, and now teaches the word of God together with his key security personnel.
And he has nothing but good words for the boxing champion.
“He’s very gracious, a cheerful person, very generous. Napakabait na tao, wala akong masabi, hindi lang sa akin kundi sa lahat ng tao,” Aguilar said of the Pacman.
Despite his busy schedule, Aguilar said he still finds time to do movies.
“Yun ang source of livelihood para sa pamilya ko. Mas maganda pag marami kang inaasahan kaysa wala,” he said.
Looking back, the self-confessed senior citizen said he has done more than 200 movies, among them with big stars such as the late Comedy King Dolphy and the King of Philippine movie Fernando Poe Jr.
He considers his role in the film Mananabas starring Cesar Montano as his most memorable, and he also landed a role in Pacquiao's movie Anak ng Commander.
“Actually, may plano daw siya (Pacquiao) gumawa uli ng pelikula,” Aguilar revealed.
And for sure, Chris Aguilar, Pacquiao’s close-in security and assistant pastor, will be part of the action.
