LAS VEGAS – Mommy Dionisia Pacquiao (Dionisia Dapidran Pacquiao) doesn’t see any reason why she would doubt the word of her world famous son when he talks about finally retiring from boxing.
The colorful mother of ring icon Manny Pacquiao said she trust that the eight-time world division champion will stay true to his promise of hanging his gloves once his 12-round welterweight bout with Tim Bradley at the MGM Grand is over.
“Yes, sabi niya,” said the so-called ‘Pac-Mom’ as she watched the official weigh-in of the nine-bout card on Friday (Saturday, Manila time) in the company of close family friend and partner Michael Yamson.
Asked if she believes what the Pacman told her, she replied, “Oo naman. Seryoso siya nung sinabi niya.”
As early as Pacquiao’s loss to Bradley in 2012 during their first encounter, the Pacquiao matriarch has already been encouraging her son –who is running for a Senate seat in the coming Philippine elections - to finally quit the sport that has been the family’s bread and butter the past two decades.
And she can’t be more happier now that the 37-year-old future Hall of Famer appears bent on really living up to his word of walking away from boxing for good.
“Siyempre masaya ako,” she stressed. “Dati ko pa sinasabi sa kanya yan.”
So for one last time, Aling Dionisia said she’ll pray his son won’t be seriously hurt in his final ring appearance.
“Handan a kami para bukas. Mag-pray kami, I-pray lang namin siya na maayos ang laban nila, na walang maging problema,” she stressed.
