CARL Jammes Martin is primed up for the biggest break of his boxing career as he faces former world title challenger David Picasso despite the uncertainty of the fight card due to security reasons in Saudi Arabia.
Martin, 27, is now winding down training camp at the Pacquiao Prime Boxing gym in Los Angeles in time for the 10-round bout on Oct. 31 as part of the Canelo Alvarez-Christian Mbili title fight for the WBC super-middleweight championship at the Kingdom Arena in the capital city of Riyadh.
It will be Martin’s first bout outside the country this year, but certainly the most significant in his 10-year pro career as he will be up against a dangerous Mexican, who sports a 33-1-1 record including 18 KOs.
The lone loss of Picasso came at the expense of undisputed super-bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue, a 12-round unanimous decision in December last year also held at the ‘Kingdom.’
Martin is undefeated in 28 fights (21 KOs), and coming off a third round stoppage of Carlo Demecillo last summer.
But this will be his first bout as a featherweight as none among the top seven contenders at super-bantamweight have avoided to face him in the ring.
The decision to move up in weight however, opened the door the showdown against Picasso.
Martin’s fight comes amid major security concern in the Middle East after the recent attacks and strikes at the Riyadh International Airport.
