MARK Bernaldez failed to put a blot on Alex Bell’s perfect record after losing by unanimous decision in their scheduled 10-round fight Friday (Manila time) at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas.
The Filipino, fighting out of Sanman Promotions, lost by the same scores of 100-93 on all three judges’ score cards, during the bout that serves as undercard in the main event pitting Jose Pedraza against Mikkel LesPierre in a junior welterweight match.
Bell improved to 17-0 with 5 KOs, but reportedly suffered an injury in his right hand in round nine.
But the American was in full control of the bout, denying the Filipino’s bid of pulling off an upset.
Bernaldez’s record now stands at 20-4, with 14 KOs.
The loss failed to replicate the huge victory his fellow Sanman Promotions stablemate Mike Plania authored two weeks ago against highly favored Joshua Greer in their 10-round bantamweight showdown, which ‘Magic’ Mike won by majority decision on account of the two knockdowns he scored during the course of the match.
