INCHEON, Korea — Mark Anthony Barriga settled for the bronze medal after losing via unanimous decision to South Korea’s Shin Jonghun on Thursday in the light flyweight boxing semifinals at the Seonhak Gymnasium.
Barriga raised his hands after the bout convinced he had done enough to seal the win, only to hear the referee declare the hometown bet as the winner.
All three judges gave the fight to Shin, 29-28, 30-27, 29-28, another unanimous decision that went against the Philippine boxing team.

Barriga felt he threw the clearer blows against the much-taller Korean, but says he accepts the result.
Basta ako, I did my best,” said Barriga.
