INCHEON, Korea — Mario Fernandez dropped a unanimous decision to China’s Zhang Jiawei on Thursday to finish with a bronze medal in the men’s bantamweight division of the Asian Games boxing competitions of the 17th Asian Games at the Seonhak Gymnasium

All the judges scored the bout, 29-28, for the Chinese boxer and Fernandez settled for a bronze medal, just minutes after Mark Anthony Barriga fell to Shin Jonghun of Korea in the light flyweight class.

Fernandez said his coaches felt he won the fight against the Chinese foe, a silver medalist in the Asian Games four years ago in Guangzhou.

“Hindi natin hawak yung desisyon ng judges. Sabi ng mga coaches, panalo daw ako. Pero ginawa ko ang best ko,” said Fernandez.
