MANNY Pacquiao’s training shifts to high gear Wednesday when he begins his sparring session at the Wild Card gym in Los Angeles.

Trainer Freddie Roach is bringing in the first two of six possible sparmates tasked to put the Filipino southpaw in great shape for his May 2 title showdown (May 3 in Manila) with unbeaten American Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Kenneth Simms, an upcoming welterweight from Chicago, will be the first to spar with Pacquiao for five rounds along with Rashid ‘Speedy’ Lewis.

Both fighters are unbeaten.

Simms is coming off a six-round unanimous decision over Christian Steele to raise his record to 5-0 (2 KOs), while Lewis scored a fifth-round technical knockout over Joseph delos Santos for a 13-0 card (10 KOs).

Like before, sparring sessions will be held every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, while Monday, Wednesday, and Friday is for strength and conditioning, according to Roach.

Mayweather, meanwhile, has already began sparring as early as last week.
