Typhoon Yolanda survivors get to watch Paccquiao-Mayweather megafight on Bantayan Island
Yolanda survivors in Bantayan Island are treated to a free viewing party by a British insurance company.

TYPHOON Yolanda survivors on Bantayan Island in Cebu were among those who cheered on boxing icon Manny Pacquiao during the megafight against Floyd Mayweather during a live public screening in the towns of Santa Fe, Madridejos and Bantayan.

The event was made possible by British life insurance company Pru Life UK in “support of every Filipino fighter from all walks of life” and part of the company's commitment in restoring the community after Typhoon Yolanda and aimed at inspiring locals as they continue to fight to restore their livelihoods and communities.

Bantayan Island was one of the worst-hit islands in the country caused by the devastation of Super Typhoon Yolanda claiming the lives of more than 6,000 people. After almost two years since the destruction, the island together with the affected provinces in the Central Visayas region is still recovering through the joint efforts of charitable organizations and Pru Life UK’s Prudence Foundation. The Foundation has provided livelihood and rehabilitation to the people of Bantayan Island for the past year; aiding almost 90 per cent of the population with their substantial needs.

“We know how hard it was for the Bantayan people to get back on their feet when they have lost almost everything.” said Antonio de Rosas, president and CEO of Pru Life UK. “Pru Life UK and our charitable arm, Prudence Foundation, is committed to restoring the beauty of the island especially the locals who had to face tough battles in the past. This is why we wanted to bring the much-anticipated fight to the people of Bantayan Island, we strongly believe that this will inspire them to fight against difficulties and succeed in making life better, just as much as they inspire us.”

Almost 8,000 locals watched the fight.  Pru Life UK also brought live coverage of the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight in 10 communities in Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Batangas, Quezon, Albay, Aklan, and Northern Samar.
