Pacquiao declares 'wholehearted' support for Duterte, vows to bring common sense to Senate
Senator Manny Pacquiao's oath-taking was attended by no less than President-elect Duterte.

SENATOR Manny Pacquiao declared his “wholehearted” support for incoming President Rodrigo Duterte during his oath-taking in Sarangani on Wednesday.

The President-elect was present during Pacquiao’s oath-taking at the Sarangani Sports Gymnasium that was also graced by Pacquiao’s family, close friends and supporters.

“This afternoon I declare my wholehearted support to our new President, Rodrigo Duterte,” assured Pacquiao.

The boxing great said he and Duterte shared that they have a “common desire … to love our country.”

“Sa ating susunod na magiging Pangulo, mahal na mahal niya ang ating bansa. Kailangan suportahan natin. Our common dream is to improve the lives of our fellow Filipinos.”

As one of the newcomers in the Senate, Pacquiao described himself as someone possessing “common sense” and referenced his background as one of the world's best pound-for-pound boxers.

“As champions we are solution-providers. As solution providers we will uphold common sense. Common sense is sound judgment and right action in practical matters. Oo, common sense. Iyan ang mayroon ako,” said the former eight-division world boxing champion during his prepared speech.

An evangelical Christian, Pacquiao also referenced his faith when it comes to holding public office.

“Our common vision is to see the Philippines rise to new levels of development and we will accomplish this through God’s grace. God can do anything, you know. Far more than you could ever imagine or request in your wildest dreams.”
