Freddie Roach sees no problem with Manny Pacquiao taking on Conor McGregor in a boxing match
Manny Pacquiao had earlier said he would fight Conor McGregor in the ring, not in the octagon. "If McGregor will fight me in boxing, why not? But not in MMA. MMA is much different than boxing."

FREDDIE Roach doesn't see any problem if Manny Pacquiao steps on the plate and fight Mixed Martial Arts superstar Connor McGregor if Floyd Mayweather doesn't agree to take on the lucrative bout.

Provided of course, everything will be governed by boxing rules.

"If it is a boxing match and they sanctioned the fight, yes we'll fight him," said the 57-year-old champion trainer on Tuesday in his first ever personal apperance in the weekly Philippine Sporstwriters Association (PSA) Forum at the Golden Phoenix Hotel.

"I haven't talked to Manny about that yet, though."

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum earlier said on TMZ that if the McGregor-Mayweather fight doesn't push through, he's inclined to have Pacquiao face instead the biggest draw in the MMA today.

McGregor already signed the contract for the Mayweather fight and has been issued a license by the Las Vegas Athletic Commission

Floyd Jr. though, hasn't signed his name yet on the dotted line, but has already advised his team to get ready.

Just in case, Pacquiao is a willing option.

Roach disclosed the Filipino fighter is not exactly an MMA fan, describing the sport as ‘more of a street fight.’

But since McGregor, 28, and the current UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) lightweight champion, is keen to face Mayweather – or perhaps Pacquiao – in a boxing match, Roach is ready to take on the fight.

“Whichever rules you go by, I think that’s going to be the winner,” said Roach in the same session presented by San Miguel Corp., Golden Phoenix Hotel, Accel, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.

“If it is a wrestling match, he’ll probably beat Mayweather or Manny,” the 57-year-old long-time Pacquiao trainer pointed out.

“If it is a boxing match, I think Manny and Mayweather will both absolutely beat him up.”

Roach added, “The thing is, it has to be a boxing match, of course, boxing ring, boxing gloves, boxing rules. Manny is a world champion,. If he wants to crossover, I have no problem with that.”
