Jeff Horn back in the mix as Bob Arum reveals new July fight date for Manny Pacquiao
Australian Jeff Horn is again being mentioned as possible opponent of Manny Pacquiao in a fight projected to take place in July.

LOOK who’s back in the mix for a fight with reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao.

Australian Jeff Horn is again being mentioned as possible opponent of the 38-year-old Pacquiao after the projected $38 million bout between the Filipino boxing great and former sparmate Amir Khan in the United Arab Emirates failed to take off.

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum disclosed to members of the media currently in New York for the Genady Golovkin-Daniel Jacobs middleweight unification match about a new deal he had with the camp of Horn about facing Pacquiao Down Under sometime in July.

Arum said he has yet to hear from the Filipino senator on whether he is amenable to the deal or not.

“If the fight is going to be in Australia, then it probably will be Jeff Horn. If it’s somewhere else, then it may not be,” said the veteran boxing promoter as reported by

“We are probably targeting sometime in July now when the Philippine Senate will be once again in recess,” added Arum.

All signs pointed to Horn taking on Pacquiao for the biggest fight of his life after his handler, Duco Events, reached an agreement with Top Rank for an April 23 fight (Manila time) with the eight-time world division champion.

But Pacquiao and adviser Michael Koncz opted to test the waters and found Khan to be a worthy foe after topping a poll on social media in which Pacquiao asked boxing fans to vote on who they want him to fight next.

Besides, Pacquiao’s camp reportedly talked with people from the UAE who were willing to finance the 12-round title fight to the tune of $38 million.

It didn’t materialize.

And so, Horn is back as the top choice for Pacquiao’s next opponent.

More so, Arum doesn’t see Khan as someone who can ‘hold a candle’ against other potential opponents of the 'Pacman.'

He believes reigning light-welterweight king Terrence Crawford and former world champion Adrian Broner deserves to be in line for a Pacquiao fight sometime in November.

“When we come to November, I think that there are other candidates that would probably do a lot better, particularly on US pay-per-view, like either Adrien Broner or Terrence Crawford,” said Arum.

“Guys like that, who probably have more credibility at this point, in this country, than Amir Khan does.”
