Manny Pacquiao puts WBA title on the line against unbeaten Keith Thurman

Manny Pacquiao takes on unbeaten Keith Thurman for WBA welterweight title
    May 12, 2019

IN what could be the biggest fight late in his legendary career, Manny Pacquiao will face undefeated Keith Thurman for the World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight championship.

The 40-year-old champion himself announced the fight through both his Twitter (@MannyPacquiao) and Instagram accounts (Manny Pacquiao) on Sunday.

Pacquiao tweeted 'the summer just got a little hotter!' and then below was the accompanying fight poster featuring the champion and the challenger.

Later on, international matchmaker Sean Gibbons, also a close confidante of the Filipino senator, confirmed to SPIN.ph that the fight is on.

The title bout is penciled on July 20 although no fight venue was mentioned. But it will be available live on pay-per-view via Fox Sports.

Ten years younger than Pacquiao, Thurman is definitely the most dangerous fighter Pacquiao will face of late.

The Florida native is undefeated in 29 fights (22 KOs) and is considered the WBA super-welterweight title holder.

Early this year, Thurman made his ring comeback after a two-year inactivity following an elbow surgery and obviously appeared rusty against Josesito Lopez.

Thurman could only pull off a majority decision against Lopez in the fight that took place at the Barclays Center in New York.

Pacquiao on the other hand, has been on a resurgence since a disputed decision loss to Jeff Horn in Australia two years to lose his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight crown.

The Filipino ring legend won the WBA 147-lbs title belt last year with a seventh round stoppage of former champion Lucas Matthysse in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian and then successfully defended his crown with a unanimous decision win over Adrian Broner at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas January of this year in his first U.S. fight in three years.

Pacquiao carries a record of 61-7-4, with 39 KOs.
