BE it Floyd Mayweather Jr. or someone else, Manny Pacquiao has begun conditioning himself for his first fight for 2015.

Longtime assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez bared the Filipino boxing superstar is not taking chances as he already started training by doing road work every morning in General Santos City.

While nothing is certain about his projected May 2 bout with Mayweather given the intricacies of putting together a mega-fight projected to go down as the richest in boxing history, the 36-year-old champion is definitely gearing himself up this early.

“Mahirap na. Kailangang preparado ang katawan ng ating fighting congressman sakaling biglang may maging announcement,” said Fernandez, who had already been advised about the start of Pacquiao’s training.

“Andito pa ko sa Bicol, nagtatanim pa ko ng palay. Pero anytime na magsimula na ang gym work namin, pupunta na ko run (General Santos). Kung may schedule na walang problema,” he added.

Although Pacquiao has remained mum about the Mayweather fight the past few weeks, he told Fox News in an interview that he believes the projected match will indeed, eventually take place.

“I’m thinking that the fight will happen. So hopefully, within one week though we can hear from them and fix the fight,” said the boxing superstar and congressman from the province of Sarangani.

“I don’t want that when I retire from boxing, and there’s a big question to the minds of the fans,” added Pacquiao of the fight not happening at all.

Pacquiao is currently being personally supervised in his training by Haplas Fernandez, brother of Buboy.

“Dalawang araw nang tumatakbo si boss dito sa Gensan. Kahapon siya nagsimula. Siya na mismo nagsabi na magpapagpag na siya. Okay naman kasi may basketball din siya eh,” said Haplas.

Pacquiao just came back from a three week engagement in London and the US on Saturday night, but immediately called the shots for KIA Motors the following day when the Elite played Barako Bull in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion said he’s going to play in KIA’s next game against Barangay Ginebra.

Buboy is aware of the element of surprise Mayweather is capable of pulling, insinuating the unbeaten fighter from Grand Rapids, Michigan could already be secretly training while still making everyone guess whether he will fight Pacquiao or not.

“Importante sa atin, lagi tayong nakahanda para ready tayo kung sino man ang magiging kalaban,” said Buboy, a childhood friend and longtime Pacquiao associate.

“Mahirap baka biglain tayo ni Mayweather sa date ng laban. Kanina nga sabi ng kapatid ko nag-jogging siya (Pacquiao) ulit. Okay naman,” he said. “Wala namang problema yung takbo niya kanina. Kailangan talaga maka-prepare na tayo.”

This developed as Buboy bared he already collected some videos of Mayweather and another prospective Pacquiao opponent in Amir Khan just in case chief trainer Freddie Roach asked him to submit a scouting report.

“Wala pang sinasabi talaga kung sino ang kalaban eh. Kung sakaling siya (Mayweather) man ang kalaban, kailangang suyurin talaga at mapag-aralan ng maayos,” Buboy said.

“Marami tayong mga ganon na tape na pwedeng pag-aralan, pwede rin tayong humingi pa sa Top Rank,” he stressed.

“Bawat araw na dumadaan kasi yung isang boksingero nagbabago ang style niyan eh.”

Buboy also said Pacquiao needs to train thrice over the way he did in his last fight against Chris Algieri should the Floyd Jr. bout finally happen.

“Talagang naghanda tayo run (Algieri fight), pero para sa akin i-triple pa natin dapat ang paghahanda, dahil ibang kalaban ang Mayweather,” he said.

A thorough preparation is indeed needed if and when Mayweather will be Pacquiao’s next opponent, admitted Fernandez.

“Mahirap sabihin sa ngayon kung ano talaga (ang plano), kasi mahirap ring masunog sa training. Mahirap yung maghanda ka ng maaga tapos mahirap masunog sa training, maghanda ka ng maaga tapos sa aktwal na laban, wala ka nang lakas,” Fernandez said.

As for a possible fight with Khan if ever negotiations for a Mayweather match bogs down anew, Fernandez bared the Pacquiao camp is for the Englishman from Bolton, Greater Manchester.

“Amir Khan? Walang problema kay Amir Khan kasi kahit papano, nakatulong natin si Amir Khan sa mga training niya nung nakaraan,” said Fernandez of the 27-year-old former world champion, who was a former stablemate and sparring parther of Pacquiao at the Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles.

“Ako dati ang humahawak sa punch mitts niya (Khan) kaya alam ko ang kalidad ni Amir Khan kung ano man ang merun siya,” he said.
