HOLLYWOOD - A sense of nostalgia filled the air as Manny Pacquiao's LA training camp for his third fight against Tim Bradley came to a close on Monday (Tuesday, Manila time).
People inside the Wild Card gym savored every minute, every moment of the two-hour session highlighted by a four-round sparring against Ghislain Maduma, anticipating it could likely be the last time the Filipino great will be training in the famous sweatshop located along Vine Street.
Pacquiao, 37, initially declared his third bout with Bradley as his farewell fight, although of late, he's been saying that there would be no decision to be made about his boxing career until after the national elections back home.
The greatest Philippine athlete ever is seeking a senate seat in the national polls and his vague responses only added to the suspense about his next move.
"Maybe," was his reply if this will be the last time he will be seen training at the gym of trainer Freddie Roach.
Then when asked if he felt sentimental about it, Pacquiao said, "I will miss the Wild Card after this."
"Pero enjoy naman kami for this training camp."
Shortly before the end of training, Pacquiao gathered his corner composed of Roach, conditioning coach Justine Fortune, and brothers Buboy and Haplas Fernandez in one side of the ring in prayer.
"That was the first time that we prayed together after training," the Pacman noted.
If indeed everything will soon be over and done with as far as his boxing career is concerned, Pacquiao said he's forever grateful to the sport that is so brutal and yet very good to him.
"Nag-start akong mag-boksing 12 years old until now. Matagal ng panahon. Diyan ako lumaki. Sa narating ko, hindi ko pinagsisihan yung pinag-daanan ko," Pacquiao said.
"At yung pinasok kong larangan, I'm so thankful to God for raising me from nothing to something. May purpose pa ang Panginoon sa akin ... a better purpose," he added.
That said, Pacquiao and his team were off to the bright lights of Las Vegas in what could possibly be their final journey to greatness together.
