MANNY Pacquiao’s trainers shrugged off talk about Jeff Horn’s size advantage, noting the fighting senator has disposed of bigger guys throughout his career using speed, timing and accuracy.
Buboy Fernandez, Pacquiao’s chief assistant trainer and longtime friend, added they relish seeing the eight-division world champion cut taller, heftier pugs down to size.
Fernandez noted they are not taking Horn lightly, saying they anticipate a good fight on July 2 in Brisbane.
“No, not that overconfident kami. Haven’t you noticed, lahat ng nakalaban ni Manny mula nang umakyat siya ng timbang sa welterweight, mas malalaki sa kanya,” Buboy said.
“Except, of course (Juan Manuel) Marquez. At lahat tinalo ni Manny,” he added, referring to ring legend Oscar de La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Joshua Clottey, Shane Mosley, Timothy, Brandon Rios, Chris Algieri and Jessie Vargas.
Kahit saan suntukin, tiyak tatamaan,” he said rather kiddingly.
Buboy said Pacquiao’s training is always geared on speed, and punching power is generated from speed.
“Manny’s power in his punches nanggagaling sa bilis. Manny is a rare kind of fighter. Yung ibang boxer, mabilis lang, yung iba, malakas lang. Si Manny, mabilis na, malakas pa,” he pointed out.
The outcome will be no different against Horn, Fernandez vowed.
“Kaya if Horn’s camp believe lamang sila, they have to think again,” Buboy warned.
