I WOULD like to believe it was no coincidence that I sat right next to Amir Tsarfati in the shuttle bus bound for our ferry rides from Macau to Hong Kong the day after Manny Pacquiao made a successful ring comeback against Brandon Rios.
Tsarfati is a Bible prophecy teacher (beholdisrael.com) who toured Pacquiao and his entourage in Israel last year, during which time he warned the Filipino boxing icon of the so-called pastors who are out to take advantage of Manny's generosity.
Amir, you see, frequently visits the Philippines and has spent some 'quality time' around the hordes of hangers-on inside Team Pacquiao, so he has a fairly good idea on what goes on over there.
During the short ride, he posed a seris of intriguing question which dawned on me as prophetic the moment I arrived in Manila, given the problem with the taxman that welcomed our conquering hero.
"Why is Manny left unprotected against the opportunists around him? Is it being done on purpose so there will be confusion and chaos around Pacquiao so they can steal his money away?"
Instead of answering his questions, I posed my own question: "How can the so-called preachers around Manny continue to pretend that they are sharing God's words to him but in reality are only after the gratuity or food and shopping money the eight-division world champion gives to them?
Before he took his ferry ride to the Hong Kong airport, Tsarfati whispered: "Everyone will be held accountable for their actions on the day of final reckoning!"
Amen to that.
