BRISBANE, Australia - Dean Lonergan, the former rugby player from New Zealand, delivered a jab that nearly kayoed Manny Pacquiao on Wednesday.

Lonergan of Duco Promotions called the attention of the world welterweight champion while he was talking at the podium during the final presser for Sunday's title fight between Pacquiao and hometown bet Jeff Horn at the Suncorp Stadium.

Apparently, the 51-year-old Kiwi noticed the boxing legend and senator wasn't paying attention to the proceedings as he was busy texting on his phone that he was prompted to make some adlib and took a potshot at the Filipino ring icon.

"Not only and you will have notice this if you are watching closely. Not only is Manny Pacquiao a living, fine world champion, an eight division world champion, but he's also a world champion texter coz he didn't take his eyes off his phone," said Lonergan that brought the house down.

He added, “I’ve attended four press conferences with Manny, he never gets off his bloody phone. I hope you take the phone into the ring and she’ll be game over.”

Pacquiao burst into laughter the moment he realized Lonergan's hit on him and promptly put the gadget down on the table.

Not for long. He was back to his texting ways when other personalities took their turns to speak in front of the media.

Lonergan went on and continue doing his thing, branding the event dubbed ‘Battle of Brisbane’ as the biggest boxing event in the history of this country, one that will put Brisbane on the world map.

So far 46,000 tickets have already been sold, according to him, and expect to get a crack of reaching at least a crowd of 55,000 on the day of the fight itself.

He also believes history would be made four days from now.

“Unfortunately everybody’s time comes. Manny’s time has come,” said Lonergan, a self-confessed Pacquiao fan. “It’s now the time of Jeff Horn.”

The New Zealander foresees the hands of the 29-year-old Horn being raised at the end of the 12-round title fight and being proclaimed as the new WBO welterweight champion.

“It’s gonna be one of the greatest Australian sporting mileage (ever),” he said in conclusion.
