LAS VEGAS – His pregnant wife not being beside him in one of the most important fights of his career gives Manny Pacquiao a sense of longing.
“I’m sad because I miss my family,” admitted the boxing sensation, who had to go about his training camp here minus spouse Jinkee Pacquiao and their four children Michael, Emmanuel, Princess, and Queen Elizabeth.
Jinkee will not be able to personally root for her husband when Pacquiao vies for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title belt against Tim Bradley this Saturday at the MGM Grand here as she is heavy with her fifth child with the eight-time world champion.
Mrs. Pacquiao has always been an inspiring presence at ringside in every fight of the Pacman even during the time when she was pregnant with daughter Queen Elizabeth when her husband faced boxing great Oscar De La Hoya in 2008.
Jinkee, the vice-governor of Sarangani Province, is due to give birth at the end of the month, although the 35-year-old would-be father again said he’s not discounting the possibility of the baby coming out within the next few days.
Pacquiao is keeping his fingers crossed his wife won’t give birth on the day of the fight itself.
“I hope not,” he said with a hearty laugh.
The Pacquiao couple will be naming the baby boy Israel.
The coming baby - his third boy – gives the legendary fighter immense excitement that he said winning another world title would be a perfect present to both mother and child once everything is over and done with.
“I’m excited for the fight, and I’m excited to go back home and wait for the new baby,” he said.
