ALTHOUGH the result was a disappointing split draw, the bout between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez held last September 17, 2017 at the T-Mobile Arena at the famous Strip in Las Vegas proved a blockbuster success commercially.

According to ESPN, the middleweight unification fight generated $27,059,850 from 17,318 tickets sold out of a sellout crowd of 22,358. A total of 934 complimentary tickets were given away to sponsors.

The Los Angeles Times also reported that there were 1.3 million domestic pay-per-view buys at $69.99 a pop for standard definition and $79.99 for high definition. Besides getting a share of pay-per-view revenues, Golovkin collected a $3 million fight purse, while Alvarez, considered the A-side of the promotion, got $5 million.

Following the controversial ending, the public clamored for a rematch. And after a brief stall due to Alvarez's six-month suspension for doping violations, the rematch is set on September 15 on the same venue - the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

A price point for the pay-per-view has yet to be established but both pugs are already assured of another big payday.

In a report by USA Today, both camps, after months of tough negotiations, agreed to a 52.5-47.5 revenue split in favor of the 28-year old Mexican superstar who has proven to be a big box office draw. Golovkin, the undefeated 36-year old Kazakhstani (39-0-1 with 38 KOs), is expected to earn at least $30 million while Canelo (52-1-2 with 34 KOs) will reap slightly more.

And for fight fans, this means shelling out serious money to witness the event live.

The most expensive seats in the arena during fight night are located in Floor A, which sells at $12,760 apiece at vividseats.com The cheapest ticket lies at section 216 for $495 each while seats at the southwest corner of Section 117 goes for $713.

Over at seatgeek.com a ticket at Floor E near the ring is available at $10,500.
