KUALA LUMPUR - Jhack Tepora scored a ninth-round technical knockout win over Edivaldo Ortega to claim the World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight crown on Sunday morning at the Axiata Arena here.

The Filipino sent the Mexican crashing on the floor with a right uppercut for the first knockdown, before delivering the coup de grace by swarming all over Ortega as soon as the bout resumed.

With Ortega helpless while facing a barrage of Tepora punches, the referee put a halt to the fight at the 2:38 mark of the ninth round.

"Masayang-masaya ako dahil pangarap ko talagang maging world champion," said the 25-year-old pride of Cebu.
