MACAU – Fil-American Jessica Sanchez will be singing both the Philippine national anthem and the Star-Spangled Banner during Sunday’s 12-round match between Manny Pacquiao and Brandon Rios.
Ricardo Jimenez of Top Rank confirmed the news to Spin.ph, saying the American Idol 2012 runner-up is the only person tasked to sing the national anthems of both countries in the blockbuster fight.
Sanchez, born and raised in Chula Vista, California to an American-Mexican father (Gilbert Sanchez) and Filipina mother Editha Bugay from Samal, Bataan, also sang the Star Spangled Banner during Pacquiao’s title match against Timothy Bradley last year, although it was Kirby Asunto who did the rendition of Lupang Hinirang.
The 18-year-old rising star is set to arrive here on Friday, two days before the fight.
